Lady Hawk powerlifters win Henrietta Invitational

Iowa Park High School Lady Hawk powerlifters took first place Thursday at the Henrietta Powerlifting Meet.

Meanwhile, with several veteran Hawk lifters taking a break from competition, a youthful Hawk group finished in seventh place overall, led by Emilio Carrizales’ first place finish.

The Lady Hawks took home the team trophy with 49 points, followed by Rider with 42 points, and Nocona in third with 29.

Jayla Hawkins was named Outstanding Lifter in the 181 - 220+ classes, and was one of five Lady Hawks to place first in their respective weight classes.

Hawkins placed first in the 181 class with a 760-pound total in three events (squat, bench, and deadlift). Chloe Johnson (585 total) took first in the 114 class; Brittany Doughten (690 total) first in the 148 class; Chasidy Wright (665 total) first in the 165 class; and Chelsea Nash (620 total) first in the 220 class.

Jessica Swinea (555 total) placed second in the 132 class, while Danielle Morales (610 total) and Katerina Gestes (590 total) placed third.

Ashley Spomer (555 total) finished fourth in the 181 class, July Sosebee (490 total) fifth in the 132 class, and Alyson McIlvanie (500 total) sixth in the 123 class.

“The girls did a good job of improving our bench press totals,” said Coach Gary Green. “We’ve been to three meets in less than two weeks, so a week off will do us some good. We have a few girls nursing injuries right now. If we can heal up before regionals, we should be in good shape.”

For the Hawks, Carrizales had the best outing, totalling 650 pounds to capture the 114 class.

Cody Brown (1,070 total) placed fourth in the 181 class; Rowdy Raschke (660 total) fifth in the 132 class, and J.D. Cuatt (935 total) finished fifth in the 198 class.

“We took some of our younger boys over to the lift this week,” said Coach Dusty Rafferty. “They did a good job of competing and bringing up their totals. We are looking forward to our meet on the 21st.”

The Hawks will travel to Childress Saturday, then on Saturday, Feb. 21 all Hawk and Lady Hawk powerlifters will host the Iowa Park Mean Green Meet.

Qualifying lifters will advance to the Women’s Regional Meet Feb. 28 at Leonard High School, and the Men’s Regional Meet March 7 at Decatur High School.
