Hale fourth at state meet
Iowa Park High School sophomore Bethany Hale, competing for the second straight year at the UIL State Track and Field Meet in Austin Saturday, placed fourth in the 3A girls 800-meter dash with a season-best time of 2:18.96.
Hale trimmed four seconds off her performance as a freshman on the track at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the UT campus, when she finished seventh. She kept pace with the leaders throughout the race, and was in third place going into the home stretch before Liberty Hill’s Susie Kemper overtook her for the bronze with a 2:18.53.
Former Iowa Parkan Laura Henry captured the gold medal for Prosper with a 2:15.26 clocking. Eryn Barroso of Wimberley was second with a time of 2:17.34. Rounding out the field, Sara Bates of Palestine was fifth (2:20.63), Argyle’s Colbea Harris sixth (2:23.61), Talea Turner of Waco Connally seventh (2:24.67), and Gabby Mota of Corpus Christi West Oso eighth (2:25.06).
“I was very proud of Bethany’s performance at the state meet,” said Coach Jacinda Langen. “I thought she ran a good race, and she ran her best time of the year. That’s all you can ask for from a kid, is for them to rise to the occasion and do their best when their best is called for.
“I know she was disappointed not to medal,” continued Langen. “But I thought she ran great.”
