For the past decade or so, the Iowa Park Leader has supported a very important organization in Iowa Park - The Iowa Park Food Pantry - by accepting canned goods through November and December as subscription payment to benefit hungry families in Iowa Park during the holidays.

This year, we were in a conundrum about how to do this because our office is closed to the public due to the pandemic, and promoting local food security is our main yearly project.

Ironically and sadly, the economic damage of the pandemic has also led to a greater need in our community for food assistance.

In trying to figure out how to best assist our community this year, publisher Dolores Hamilton, in her signature style of love for our community, is giving the Iowa Park Food Pantry $5 from every single Iowa Park Leader subscription bought from now through December 20.

And we hope you make us pay big.

There is a story on another page in this week’s paper about commodities distribution and how to donate food items, and I urge you to look that up.

I also urge you, after you renew your subscription, to take as many unexpired non-perishable food items to the food pantry, or write a check to them if you are able.

Together, I think we can get Iowa Park through, because that is who we are.
