One Man's Ramblings

A big congratulations to the Iowa Park Lady Hawks for earning a second straight trip to the UIL State Softball Tournament in Austin.

This year, like last year, was a blast to watch and cover.

And it is by no way done.

This year’s region final with Argyle was storybook, with the girls in green and white battling back from a big whupping in Game 2 (thaeir worst loss in three years), regrouping and coming into Game 3 with a special resolve which ended with a 10-4 win and regional championship trophy.

The crowd was something else all through the series. I heard some people in Argyle went on social media and were antagonizing our side with their posts.

Well, the parents and fans of the Lady Hawks came to Game 3 with their own resolve, and were as loud and supportive as I’ve ever seen. I know the girls felt their presence.

The task ahead of our young ladies from Iowa Park this week in Austin starts out as formidable as it gets – going up against defending champ Liberty in the semifinals Thursday night.

A positive for our Lady Hawks is the fact they were at the state tournament as well last year ... all of them ... and the experience alone is a plus, not to mention the resolve to go into this year’s tournament with a better result.

In my mind, the Lady Hawks have already had a tremendously successful season to this point. I will be there once again to cover the games and cheer them on.

Best of luck, girls. On a final note, if you were at Saturday’s Game 3 in Bowie, you might have seen one of the best

Best of luck, girls. displays of sportsmanship at the end of the game.

While most of the team was celebrating near the pitchers mound, Argyle’s Taylor Platt remained crouched in the batter’s box where she earlier had struck out to end the game.

Iowa Park’s Madi and Ashdyn Fulfer saw her, and left the celebration to walk over and console the senior left fielder.

She was joined by Platt’s teammate Maya Bland, and together they paid respect to a hard fought series between two really good teams.

It doesn’t get any better.

See you in Austin.
