Even with five new COVID-19 cases reported in Wichita County in the past week, the number of active cases is continuing to drop.

Active cases in the county are at 12, down from 15 last week. The total number of positive tests in Wichita County since March 18 sits at 90. Iowa Park accounts for 25 of the total cases.

One resident of a long-term care facility is in isolation pending a retest of a preliminary positive result. Iowa Park Healthcare Center has been tested and no positive results were obtained.

A check of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice website showed that two employees at the Allred Unit in Iowa Park had tested positive for COVID-19. The State of Texas is conducting their own testing of prisoners and prison employees, so the tests do not go through the Wichita County-Wichita Falls Public Health Unit. It was unclear at presstime if the two employees who tested positive were residents of Wichita County and therefore are included in the count. (Edit: The Leader learned after presstime that the two positives cases at the Allred Prison unit were clerical errors)

As of Tuesday night, 7,010 residents of Wichita County have been tested for COVID-19, with 6,288 tests returning negative and 630 remain pending.

The new cases in the past week include:
