On Tuesday, February 15th, James “Suzie” Williams, 87, heard these words – The ultimate welcome, “Well done, my child, enter into the joys of the Lord.”

Jim was born on December 9, 1934 and lived in Texas all his life.  He was raised in a Christian family; and at the age of 14 he received Jesus Christ as his Savior, and was baptized.  In 1955, Jim married his high school sweetheart, Maxine Ramsey, and the two of them were a team for over 66 years.  They later welcomed their son Paul, to complete their family.

Beginning in 1958, Jim served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. Chaffee, and Honorably Discharged from the Army National Guard of Texas in 1961.  He graduated with degrees in Biology, Chemistry, & English from Midwestern University in 1960, and worked as a Senior Research Chemist in the oil industry for 48 years.  A highlight of Jim’s professional achievements include receiving patents for his first formulations which are used in the oil industry to this day.

Jim started his career as a young “roughneck” between semesters in high school and college.  Upon graduation, he joined Getty Oil Company as a Research Specialist where he excelled early in developing and testing emulsion breakers, corrosion inhibitors and chemicals still used worldwide in the enhancement of oil recovery.  In 1970, Jim became a Research and Development Chemist with Nalco Chemical Company and continued to establish himself in the development of emulsion breaking formulations, and in manufacturing and testing water treatment coagulants.  Jim soon found himself blending specialty chemicals for major companies such as Exxon, Shell, Mobil, Pemex, Baroid, Dresser, and Hoechst in the Middle and Far East, South America, Canada, Alaska, and other Northern Hemisphere areas as well as in Texas.  It was in Texas in 1978, that Jim launched his own company, Emulsion Breaking, Inc., where he acted as a liaison between the oil and chemical industries.

After retirement, Jim spent 3 years in his home lab developing an innovative product that would become the foundation of the Williams’ company, Base-Seal International, Inc., which they managed together for over 30 years.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond James and Vada Williams; and his son, James Paul Williams.  He is survived by his wife, Maxine (Ramsey) Williams.

Jim was an active member at Houston’s First Baptist Church, where he faithfully attended Sunday school, and loved teaching 3 year old children about Jesus.  He and Maxine felt especially called to pray for and support those serving in the mission field.  Jim was on the Board of Directors for Called to Life, International, a Christian ministry based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

On Monday, February 21st, Jim was laid to rest at Forest Park Cemetery on Westheimer Rd.  There will be a celebration of Jim’s life at Houston’s First Baptist Church, 7401 Katy Freeway on Tuesday, March 15th at 11am.  A reception will follow.  Service will be live streamed on the “HFBC Memorial Services” Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/449493816484915

Maxine wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation for the caring love and prayers provided by her family of faith.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Called to Life, International, P.O. Box 42265, Houston, TX 77242.
