John (Jay) Whitten Meux

John (Jay) Whitten Meux, 64, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 23.

In lieu of funeral services, family and friends will celebrate Jay’s life with a gathering to be held at a time and place to be determined later this summer.

He was born on Jan. 5, 1957, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, the son of Dr. and Mrs. John Meux, and grew up in Kansas, Wichita Falls and Iowa Park. He was a 1979 graduate of Midwestern State University and a 1982 Master’s graduate of the University of North Texas. After teaching for a year at Texas Christian University he began working at General Dynamics which later became Lockheed Martin. He worked there from 1988-2019 on the cockpit and heads-up displays for the F-16, F-22 and F-35. He was involved with his children’s sports and coached his daughter in soccer and son in soccer and baseball as well as a few other sports. He continued to coach soccer even after his children were through with youth sports.

He retired from Lockheed Martin in December 2019 and started to work out enthusiastically with a virtual bike ride around the continental United States in 2020 and a planned virtual walk around Europe for 2021. For that virtual bike ride he ended up riding 8,200 miles.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Wesley Meux and mother, Elizabeth Whitten Meux. Survivors include his wife Linda of Denton; daughter, Erin Homer of Denton; son, Josh Meux of McKinney; sister Laurie DeMars of Allen; and two grandchildren.

The family suggest memorials may be made by mail to: The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America; 322 8th Avenue; Seventh Floor, New York, NY 10001 or may be made online at www.alzfdn.org.
