Larry Edmon King

Larry Edmon King, age 72, of Iowa Park passed away peacefully at his home Monday morning on April 12, 2021. He was born to Garvin Edmon and Joye Lanell on October 10, 1948 in Seymour, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Robert Hawthorne, and granddaughter Mavah Morgan.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years Penny (Hawthorne) King, son Sean Badger and wife Kelly of Grapevine, son Toby Edmon King and wife Trina of Ponder, daughter Misty Williams and husband Cody of Iowa Park, son Seth Morgan and wife Missy of City View, sister Judy Northrup and husband Bill of Katy, brother Mark King and wife Debbie of Katy, 14 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry started working at age 16 at Henke-Pellot grocery in Houston where he became the youngest manager at age 19. He volunteered to serve his country by joining the Army in 1969. After boot camp he became an instructor for encryption in New Jersey. He then volunteered for active duty in the Vietnam War where he did a tour in 1970-1971. There he was handpicked to be part of a 5-man specialty team for Signal Corp that traveled throughout Vietnam keeping communications up and running for our bases. Some these were still being under attack and his team had to land their helicopter under fire and repair downed communications. After serving, he continued his communications specialty in Houston by working for Western Union for 13 years, eventually transferring to north Texas. Larry then started his employment as a sales and service area manager for Ecolab. Successfully serving a large area in North Texas, where he was recognized 3 times during his tenure of being in the top ten in sales nationally. He retired at the age of 62 after 28 years.

Larry had many joys in life. One of which was being a father to his 4 children and seeing their accomplishments. Another was being Papa to his 13 grandchildren with number 14, Graham Edmon, due in August. Larry enjoyed shooting, traveling, hunting, fishing, taking cruises, and entertaining friends and family; especially family spending time with him in his pool. Larry was an exceptionally hard worker and strived for his achievements, including being the first in his family with a college degree, as well as retiring at an early age.
