Lawrence “Larry” Hugh Smith, 81, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, in Wichita Falls.

Funeral services were held Monday, in the chapel at Dutton Funeral Home with Rev. John Hare, pastor, Pacific Avenue Baptist Church, officiating.

Graveside services will be held at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Francisco, CA.

Larry was born Nov. 18, 1937, in Post Falls, ID., to Fred and Mary (Ness) Smith. He married Betty Deal on July 3, 1963 in Cordell, OK. He joined the United States Air Force in 1957 and served 20 years, retiring in 1977. During that time, he served in the Vietnam War followed by TDY’s in Germany, Turkey, Guam, Philippines, and Thailand. After his retirement from the military, he worked for 32 years, retiring as the Hydraulic Shop Leadman for the Sheppard Air Force Base Maintenance Contract. He enjoyed spending his time fishing, camping, and in later years he enjoyed the excitement of the casino.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two baby sons, Lawrence Smith, Jr. and Jerry Allen Smith; two brothers, Fred and Jim Smith.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Betty Ruth Smith; two sons, Gary Smith and Charles Smith, both of Iowa Park; two brothers, Jack Smith of Coos Bay, OR., and William Smith of Corvallis, OR.; two sisters, Betty Smith and Nancy Smith, both of Oregon; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
