Rosie M. Boone

Rosie M. Boone, 87, of Hallettsville, passed away July 24, 2020. She was born on December 24, 1932, to John P. & Edith Vacker Skoruppa, in Edna, TX. She married Daniel “Buddy” Boone on October 31, 1978, in Corpus Christi.

Rosie grew up in an era that is quickly slipping away, it seems. It was an era when one worked hard from sun-up to sundown, there was no “instant” anything, and you made your own fun. Family gatherings, cards and dominos, kick the can…these were some of her happiest memories. She may have only completed the eighth grade, but she had more common sense than entire political parties do these days!

Rosie loved sewing, crocheting and quilting – gifting masterpieces to family and friends over the years. Many an hour around the quilting frame produced tears and laughter, along with a lot of love. There was no plant or tree she couldn’t grow, or so it seemed. Her homes were always the greenest and lushest of any others. Rosie had a soft spot for any injured animal, bird or reptile (turtles, not snakes!). She nursed fawns, squirrels, a hummingbird and turtles back to health and released them.

Rosie loved polka music and dancing with the love of her life, Buddy. She faced many health battles in recent years and fought all of them very bravely. But on Friday, July 24, she was granted the greatest wish of her heart…to say a peaceful goodbye to her children, grandchildren, great grandson, family and friends, and to dance into eternity with Buddy. It would be impossible to thank all those who have helped Mom through the past few years amidst her health struggles.

Rosie is survived by: 4 children, Chuck Buikema (Pattie), Debbie Miller, Daniel Buikema (Deborah Emmons) and Carol Buikema; 2 brothers, Paul and Robert Skoruppa, 3 sisters, Agnes Salyer, Janie Evans and Dorris Raska; 2 grandchildren, Stephen and Danna Miller; and great grandchild Shamus McCann.

Rosie was preceded in death by: her husband Buddy; parents; 3 brothers, Jimmy, Johnny and Pete Skoruppa; and sister Ann Pittaway.
