Lanham chosen to head Hawk basketball

Coach Justin Lanham

Iowa Park athletic director Aubrey Sims reported this week that Justin Lanham has been named as the new head boys basketball coach at Iowa Park High School, pending board approval tonight.

“Justin was at the top of our list when we started collecting resumes, and we are excited to have him join our staff,” Sims said. “We believe Justin will give us some stability in that position. He has great recommendations as a classroom teacher, and will bring a lot of energy and passion to our basketball program.

“Coach Lanham will fit right in with our community and staff.”

In addition to coaching Hawk basketball, Lanham will also teach social studies.

His wife, Kylie, has been recommended for the position of first grade teacher at Kidwell Elementary.

“My wife and I are so excited to be a part of the Iowa Park family,” Lanham said this week. “We are ready to get to work and to start building relationships within the community.

“The thing that excited me the most about being the new Hawk basketball coach is the winning culture of the school. There is a culture of excellence at Iowa Park High School, and I’m excited to bring that to the hardwood.

Lanham continued “My expectations for this program are that we put our nose to the grindstone and get better each day. If we work hard and get better each day, everything else will take care of itself. We are going to create a culture that student/athletes are excited and proud to be a part of.”

A 2010 graduate at Stephenville High School, where he excelled in basketball, Lanham then attended Texas A&M University where he earned a Bachlor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies, and also served as a student assistant for the Aggie basketball team.

He began his coaching career at McCullough Jr. High in 2014 at The Woodlands, then joined the Azle High School staff as varsity assistant basketball coach while teaching health and physical education.

From there he joined the Denton Braswell High School staff in 2018 as varsity assistant basketball coach and world history teacher.
