Houston Restaurant Owners Identified in Murder-Suicide Case

Matthew Mitchell and Thy Mitchell were identified as the deceased couple in an apparent triple murder-suicide in the River Oaks area here in Houston.

Both in this marriage were listed as the owners of Traveler’s Cart, located on Montrose Boulevard between West Gray Street and West Dallas Street, and Traveler’s Table, situated on Westheimer Road between Montrose Boulevard and Taft Street.

Houston police said they responded to a Kingston Street residence near Avalon Place to conduct a welfare check around 5:30 p.m. on May 4. Authorities indicated that the family’s nanny and one of the victims’ sisters requested the welfare check after not having seen or heard from the family since the night of May 3.

Officers quickly arrived at the scene and entered the home, where they found four people dead. It was confirmed that all were members of the same family, including a father, a mother, and two children.

Police noted that the woman was 39 years old, the children were 8 and 4, and the man, who was identified as the alleged perpetrator, was 52. It appears the four had died as a result of gunshot wounds. Investigators said that the evidence found at the scene suggested that the man shot the three victims before taking his own life.
