Between Duets and a Band: Vicente Fernández Lives On

They have always said that great legends never die, and that is the case with Vicente Fernández. More than four years after his death, the artist also known as the “king of ranchera music” continues to captivate his audience with his voice. On this occasion, it is a new album titled “Tribute to the King with Band (Great Duets) Vol. 1”; these are Fernández’s unforgettable songs returning with renewed force, through emotional duets with all the power that renowned artists of the Sinaloan banda genre bring to each interpretation.

For the recordings of the posthumous duets included in the album, the original masters of the idol’s voice were used, complemented thanks to technology with new voices and modern sounds that connect with the audience, and that lend freshness to these authentic anthems of Mexican music.

This twelve-song album features the participation of figures such as Eden Muñoz, Banda El Recodo, Christian Nodal, Yuri, La Arrolladora Banda El Limón, La Adictiva, Jorge Medina, Josi Cuen and Alejandro Fernández, in a musical reunion that has moved the followers of the Fernández dynasty’s musical heritage, just to name a few.

“Singing ‘El Rey’ has always been something very special for me. Today I sing it with the one who taught me to live it, my father, Vicente Fernández,” shared Alejandro Fernández about his participation in this project.

Each track on this album was developed as a new production, worked individually by the invited artists together with their go-to producers. Using the original masters of Vicente Fernández’s voice as a starting point, new arrangements, new interpretations and a contemporary production were created that yield unreleased versions within the universe of regional Mexican music.

Recording with Mr. Vicente Fernández was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. I was thrilled that he would hear my music and that he would dare to record one of the songs with me; it felt like a very big dream. And making it happen this way was very beautiful,” Christian Nodal assured, who performs the track “Estos celos” on the album.

This musical work has the authorization of the Fernández family, which guarantees an authentic result and respectful of the legend.

And with this, the greatness of his songs is revived through interpretations that blend tradition and modernity, celebrating the continued relevance of one of the most important and immortal voices of Mexican music.

For me it is a privilege to be in this project with Mr. Don Vicente Fernández, whom I had the privilege of meeting, of sharing with him and with his wife. It is incredible. When they told me that this would now be with band, ‘Cuatro Vidas’, a duo we did some time ago, it was a pleasure for me. So thanks to his family, thanks to everyone who has made this dream possible,” Yuri expressed.

This release demonstrates the reach that Vicente’s music continues to have, supported by more than 15.2 billion streams, 10.5 billion video views and more than 70 million physical albums sold.
