From the Animated Series

“He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,” known simply as “He-Man,” was an American animated television series of the “sword and planet” genre, produced by Filmation and based on Mattel’s Masters of the Universe toy line. The series was one of the most popular animated productions of the 1980s. It made its television debut in September 1983 and aired until 1985, consisting of two seasons of 65 episodes each.

The First

This animated series already had its first live-action film in the 80s and the one that is about to premiere is an adaptation of that same one.

Masters of the Universe:  1987

Toys

The original line of He-Man toys was launched in 1982 as part of Mattel’s Masters of the Universe franchise. It included figures of heroes such as He-Man, Man-At-Arms, Teela and Orko, and figures of villains such as Skeletor, Evil-Lyn, Beast Man and Trap Jaw.

The Cost

$170 to $200 million is the estimated production cost of this film produced by Amazon, MGM and Mattel; this makes it one of the most expensive film adaptations of the franchise to date.
