He is a hero with whom a generation grew up and with whom many dreamed of being like him; he is “He-Man”. His story began as a toy and extended with a cartoon series that premiered in the early 80s. Today he remains a character many remember and others still are his fans. After being on television, in 1987 he arrived on the big screen for the first time in what was a live-action film and which to this day is very popular. Almost forty years later, “He-Man” returns to the cinema and it is in “Masters of the Universe”, an adaptation of the first film that hopes to satisfy fans and reach new generations. It premieres on June 5.

The Story
The film tells the story of a ten-year-old boy, Prince Adam, who crash-landed on Earth in a spacecraft and was separated from his magical sword, the only link to his home in “Eternia”. After locating it almost two decades later, Prince Adam is transported back into space to defend his home planet from the evil forces of “Skeletor”. But to defeat such a powerful villain, the “Prince Adam” will first have to uncover the mysteries of his past and become “He-Man”: the most powerful man in the Universe.

“He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,” known simply as “He-Man,” was an American animated television series of the “sword and planet” genre, produced by Filmation and based on Mattel’s Masters of the Universe toy line. The series was one of the most popular animated productions of the 1980s. It made its television debut in September 1983 and aired until 1985, consisting of two seasons of 65 episodes each.

This animated series already had its first live-action film in the 80s and the one that is about to premiere is an adaptation of that same one.

The original line of He-Man toys was launched in 1982 as part of Mattel’s Masters of the Universe franchise. It included figures of heroes such as He-Man, Man-At-Arms, Teela and Orko, and figures of villains such as Skeletor, Evil-Lyn, Beast Man and Trap Jaw.
The Cost
$170 to $200 million is the estimated production cost of this film produced by Amazon, MGM and Mattel; this makes it one of the most expensive film adaptations of the franchise to date.
