More big releases continue to hit the big screen this March; now it’s the turn of the science fiction genre with the film “Project Hail Mary,” based on the book of the same title. Leading the cast as the protagonist is actor Ryan Gosling; he will be the one to try to save the world. Film trade press has reported that this is a high-budget movie, so expectations are very high. It opens on March 20 in theaters.

The Story

The science professor “Ryland Grace” wakes up on a spacecraft light-years from home, not remembering who he is or how he got there. As memory returns, he begins to discover his mission: to solve the mystery of the enigmatic substance that is causing the sun to go extinct. He must draw on his scientific knowledge and unconventional ideas to save Earth from extinction, but an unexpected friendship will allow him not to have to do it alone.

The Cost

Production costs are reported at $248 million according to reports from the film-focused outlet Puck. However, other outlets publish that this amount was actually $200 million.  

The Music

The film’s soundtrack is led by Daniel Pemberton, an English composer and songwriter. He works in cinema, television and video games, and is known for composing the scores for the films “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and its sequel “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.” He has also been recognized for his work on films such as “Steve Jobs” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”

The film is directly based on the science fiction novel of the same name, a 2021 bestseller by author Andy Weir.
