Happy whatever day

Age, technology and confusion are finally catching up with me.

I am among the very few sorry dog mothers who did not recognize their pooch Tuesday on what I think was National Dog Day.

And if you don’t recognize whatever is being promoted on Facebook, I think that means you don’t get to sit with the cool kids at lunch anymore. Or maybe I’m just confusing social media with junior high.

I’m not even sure if it’s a real national day, a Hallmark-created day or just a random Facebook day, but the fact is I failed miserably.

I have a dog – two actually – but by the time I realized Tuesday that it was a Facebook thing and I was supposed to post a picture of the little darlings, they had already taken off their makeup for the night and weren’t having it.

For those who follow me on Facebook, I really do love my dogs but I am really slow on the uptake with that kind of stuff.

A couple months ago, they announced it was National Daughter’s Day three days in a row on Facebook, followed by a confused onslaught of people posting pictures of their sons.

I was so confused I posted pictures of my son, daughter, two dogs and a goldfish named Foster that died when I was eight years old in 1978. I felt like I covered myself for a while or at least until the next National Dog or Goldfish Day was announced.

I opened Facebook Wednesday morning to a post that said, and I quote, “Tomorrow is National Stay in Bed Reading Day.” I stopped reading there.

It was only after I had washed my sheets, driven to the book store and given myself a fake stomach virus for work call-in purposes that I read the rest of it, which was basically .... “I made this up.”

This is why I have Face-book trust issues.

My suggestion is that Facebook go ahead and coordinate with an American company, for instance Hallmark, and the two check in with the folks in Washington who keep tabs on real and fake national holidays and text us all every day so those who really care will post the proper pictures, buy the right cards and get their deserved time off work, although I’m still not sure my goldfish’s death applies to any of this.

Until this mess gets figured out I’m going to gather my children, husband, grandboy, Mom and all of the pets I like today and take a new profile picture for Facebook.

Then I’m calling in sick to work and spending the day in bed reading.
