With the COVID-19 positive cases exploding in Texas, Friday morning Governor Greg Abbott issued a new order GA-28, which closed all bars at noon on that day and effective Monday all restaurants were required to reduce their occupancy back to 50 percent.

However, bars and restaurants can offer drive-thru, pick-up, or delivery options for food and drinks to the extent authorized by Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission.

His order also prohibits all outdoor gatherings in excess of 100 people, unless the mayor of the city in which the gathering is held, or the county judge in the case of gatherings in an unincorporated area approves the gathering.

Except for a few exceptions, people should not be in groups larger than 10 and should maintain six feet of social distancing from those not in their group.

There is no occupancy limit for Cybersecurity and Infrastructure workforce, religious services, local government operations, childcare services, youth camps and recreational sports programs for adults and youth.

Abbott encourages the wearing of face coverings, hand washing, and social distancing.

His order also closed rafting and tubing services in Texas.

Hospitalizations have also increased throughout the state and in many areas of the state hospitals are at capacity.

Abbott’s order also prohibits elective surgeries in several counties, only allowing for emergency suries.
