Reported cases of COVID-19 on the rise again

117 cases reported during past week; one death; five additional school cases

COVID-19 numbers are on the rise again in Wichita County, with active cases increased by 117 during the past week. In addition, one death and five new cases in the Iowa Park School system were reported this week.

It was reported Friday that case number 1,468, age 60-69, passed away from COVID the same day their positive test results were reported to Wichita County. It is the 19th reported Covid-related death in the county since March 18.

The Iowa Park Schools reported five more cases of COVID-19 in the past week.

Friday, a student of Bradford Elementary was confirmed positive for COVID-19. That student was present on campus September 8 and 9, and the student reported symptoms on Sept. 9 to school personnel and has not returned to the campus since. The health department has classifed the case as low risk.

Four more cases were identified Tuesday at the schools, two at Iowa Park High School, one at Bradford Elementary and one at Kidwell Elementary. As of presstime, The Wichita County Health Unit had not finished reviewing the cases and therefore information has not been released.

To date, the IPCISD has reported nine student and two staff infections.

Of the 117 new cases in Wichita County this week, seven were reported from the Iowa Park zip code. Friday, the Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health Unit released their weekly report indicating Iowa Park now has 29 of the county’s total active cases, which is 13 percent of the county’s cases.

The number of new positive cases brings the total number of active cases in the county to 239, with 97 recoveries reported in the past week. A total of 40 tests were pending as of Tuesday evening.

The total number of confirmed Covid cases reported in Wichita County since March 18 is 1,546 with 1,288 of those recovered.

To date in Wichita County, a total of 20,057 residents have been tested with 18,471 of those results returning negative.

Nineteen people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 are currently hospitalized, with four of those listed in critical condition. The latest information on hospitalizations released by the WFWC Public Health District include:
