Richard was born on December 9th, 1959 in Wichita Falls, TX to the late Billy Carroll Smith and Barbara (Perkins) Smith. Richard graduated from Iowa Park High School in 1978. He then attended Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls. While in college, Richard joined the Wichita Falls police department in 1983 and graduated from the 41st police academy. 

While in college, Richard met the love of his life, Pam (Slagle) Smith and the two married on April 7th, 1984 in Henrietta, TX. Richard and Pam welcomed their son Cody Wade Smith on June 30th 1992. 

Richard was a humble servant of God, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Iowa Park and enjoyed playing guitar in the church band, Crossfire. He had a deep love for music and was passionate for playing the guitar. He also enjoyed working on his vintage CJ7 Jeep. 

Richard had a fulfilling career as a police officer in Wichita Falls. He proudly served the community for over 38 years and ended his career as Deputy Chief. The people Richard worked with at the department became life-long friends. There was never a day he didn’t enjoy going to work. 

Richard Smith, age 61, of Iowa Park, Texas passed away on Sunday, September 19th,2021 in Wichita Falls, TX. 

Richard is preceded in death by his mother and father Billy and Barbara Smith, and older brother Billy Earl Smith. 

Richard is survived by his wife of 37 years, Pam Smith; son, Cody Smith, and wife Faith Smith; his brother, Robert Smith, and wife Tina Smith, their daughter Bethany Smith, and Bethany’s daughter, Kenley Healey. 

Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Thursday, September 23, 2021 in the chapel at Dutton Funeral Home in Iowa Park. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Friday, September 24, 2021 at Faith Baptist Church of Iowa Park with Pastor Jeffrey Pehl, First United Methodist Church of Iowa Park, officiating. Interment will follow with Wichita Falls Police Honors at Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park.
