COVID-19 case numbers drop to pre-wave numbers

Numbers of new COVID-19 cases in Wichita County are returning to those we were seeing in July, just before the third wave of the pandemic went through Texas.

Friday afternoon, Wichita County Wichita Falls Public Health District reported 215 new positive cases for the week, bringing the total of active cases to 790.

Eight deaths from COVID-19 were reported for last week, down five from the week before.

Of the eight deaths last week, one was in their 50’s; three in their 60’s; three in their 70’s; and one in their 90’s. One of those individuals was vaccinated.

For the week ending October 15, the COVID testing positivity rate is 15 percent.

Of the new cases, 62 percent were unvaccinated.

Active cases in the Iowa Park zip code again dropped last week, to 56 active cases.

The Wichita Falls Wichita County Health District also reported that 414 people recovered from the Novel Coronavirus last week.

So far this week

By Wednesday this week, the number of new cases reported since Friday stood at 98, with three new deaths reported - one individual in their 30’s and two in their 60’s.

Hospitalizations

As of Wednesday morning this week, 51 Wichita County residents are hospitalized for treatment of COVID-19, 25 of those in critical condition. Critical cases are in the following age groups:

School cases

Iowa Park CISD reported only one new case, a a student at Iowa Park High School, in the past week.
