Mrs. Mary passed away, Saturday, August 21, 2021, in Tyler, Texas. She was born May 19, 1930, in Philadelphia, Mississippi to the late William Maynard and Lucia (Walton) Kennedy. Mary attended Coldwater High School, East Central Junior College, and the University of Southern Mississippi earning a bachelor’s degree. She later retired as a Librarian after 33 years serving elementary schools in Mississippi, Georgia, and Texas.

After retirement she and Afton moved to Hideaway in 1988 enjoying beautiful East Texas and overlooking the lake. Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lindale where she was active in the Busy Bee’s Quilting Guild and the Open Door Sunday School Class. She enjoyed reading, cooking, quilting, playing Bridge, and traveling with Afton, including family reunions at Lake Tiak-O-Khata. Mary enjoyed entertaining family and friends and visiting with them through, email, phone, and in person every chance she got. Friends will remember her homemade Toffee that she would pass out at Christmas and for her wonderful sourdough bread, with melted butter on the first slice for Afton. Mary will be best remembered as a loving and devoted Wife, Mother, and Nana. She was preceded in death by brother, Moncreath Kennedy; and sisters, Bobbie Risher and Beverly Clark.

Mary is survived by her husband of 58 years, Afton Pike Sr. of Hideaway, Texas; sons, Afton Pike Jr. of Ridgeland, Mississippi and David Pike and his wife, Shirisse of Flower Mound, Texas; grandchildren, Kevin and Kaylee Pike; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving family members and friends.

Lunch will be served at 12:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Visitation will then be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. In Lieu of flowers the family has asked that contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church of Lindale.
