Rodney “Rod” Charles Turner, 72, of Burkburnett passed away, Tuesday, Dec. 22.

A memorial service was held Tuesday at the Red River Cowboy Church, in Burkburnett. Arrangements were under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett.

Rod was born in Wichita Falls, Aug. 28, 1948, and was raised in Burkburnett. He was a 1967 graduate of Burkburnett High School where he was a multi-sport athlete. He attended Ranger Jr College after high school, for one year, where he was on their baseball team. He was drafted on April 9, 1969, into the United States Army and deployed to Vietnam. He returned from Vietnam and was honorably discharged from the Army on Nov. 4, 1970. He returned to Wichita County and lived there the remainder of his life. He was an elder and active member of the Red River Cowboy Church. He enjoyed fishing, watching his grandchildren compete in their various different sports and showing their livestock projects, and going on cruises all over the world with his wife.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Gene and Dorothy (Maben) Turner.

Survivors include his wife, Jan (Simmons) Turner of Burkburnett; daughter, Becky (Turner) Coombes of Iowa Park, daughter, Brittany (Turner) Johnstonbaugh of Patterson LA.; step-son, Chuck Ralls of Comanche, Ok.; two sisters, Vicki Turner of Woodville, and Terry (Turner) Womack of Wichita Falls; four grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
