45 Dogs Rescued from a Mobile Home in North Houston

Many of the animals showed infections and hair loss; one was in critical condition. Four chickens and a pig were also removed.

Forty-five Chihuahua-mix dogs were rescued on Tuesday, October 6, from a mobile home in north Houston during an investigation into possible animal neglect.

The Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office Animal Cruelty Unit removed the dogs from a property located in the 9900 block of Edgeworth Street.

Many of the animals had infections, hair loss, and other medical issues. One of the dogs was in critical condition and received immediate veterinary care.

The Houston SPCA participated in the operation and remained responsible for providing medical care and other welfare services to the animals.

Four chickens and a pig were also removed from the property

In addition to the 45 dogs, authorities removed four chickens and a pig from the same property.

Constable Alan Rosen described the conditions inside the mobile home as severe, noting that this represented one of the largest seizures of dogs conducted by his office within a residence.

The intervention is part of an ongoing investigation to determine whether neglect or cruelty occurred.

No charges have been filed yet

As of the morning of October 7, no individual had been formally charged in connection with the case.

The Animal Cruelty Unit will continue to review the evidence, and once the investigation is concluded, detectives will consult with prosecutors to determine whether charges should be filed.

The Precinct 1 Constable’s Office works in partnership with the Houston SPCA on investigations of animal abuse and neglect in Harris County.

The animals remain under veterinary care

The Houston SPCA is providing veterinary care to the rescued dogs. Authorities have not stated when they might become available for adoption or what the process will be to determine final custody.

The organization investigates cases of animal cruelty in Harris County and other counties in the greater Houston area.

People who suspect abuse or neglect can report it by calling 713-869-7722 or by using the Houston SPCA’s official resources to report animal cruelty.

The Precinct 1 Constable’s Office also maintains a dedicated unit for animal cruelty investigations.

In January 2026, three dogs were also rescued in Houston after being chained during a cold snap. The investigation in that case also involved Precinct 1 and the Houston SPCA.
