Accusing Iran of blocking the prospect of a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and of being open to negotiating a definitive solution to the conflict he himself created, Donald Trump delivered a speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UN).
The president arrived on the floor of that institution on September 22. During his remarks, he argued that he has shown firmness while other leaders have wavered, while defending his decision to initiate a war with Iran.
With the midterm elections in mind, Trump said this is why Iran is delaying the solution.
During his address, Trump also hinted that he could be at a crossroads in the conflict.
“I have to make a big decision. Will there be an agreement with Iran that allows them to rebuild and create a country much larger than it ever was — perhaps one of the most important nations in the Middle East or even in the world — or I annihilate the Islamic Republic — and I do it quickly — without ever giving them the chance to kill and destroy people and countries again?”, Trump said.
What was evident is that most of the Iranian delegation left the chamber as Trump attacked the Islamic Republic.
“The terrorist regime behaves in a deplorable way, not because it is strong and confident in itself, but because it is weak and desperate,” Trump said.
He also spoke about Cuba and asserted that the regime on the island will fall, about Mexico and the cartels, and about topics such as the economy.
