HOUSTON, Texas — Residents of Houston will be able to access free health screenings and services during a community fair organized by the Latin American Foundation for Social Action (FLAS) on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
The event will take place from 12 to 5 p.m. at PlazAmericas, 7500 Bellaire Blvd., Houston, TX 77036, as part of National Latino AIDS Awareness Day.
Among the announced services are HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing, hepatitis C testing, glucose and blood pressure checks, and fatty liver detection.
What services will the FLAS health fair offer
FLAS announced that the health fair in Houston will provide free tests and resources to community members.
The planned services include:
- HIV testing;
- STI testing;
- hepatitis C testing;
- glucose checks;
- blood pressure measurement;
- fatty liver detection.
The organization notes that HIV testing and other infection-related tests will be offered confidentially.
“Health is one of the most important aspects of our lives. Taking control of your health begins with knowing your serological status. I encourage everyone to take action and get tested,” said Elia Chino, executive director of FLAS.
Why HIV testing is promoted
The fair is part of activities related to the National Latino AIDS Awareness Day, which is commemorated each year on October 15 in the United States.
The date aims to increase access to HIV testing, prevention, and treatment among Hispanic and Latino communities, as well as to reduce the stigma associated with the virus. FLAS works with Houston’s Latino community
FLAS, whose full name is the Latin American Foundation for Social Action, works in Houston with health and wellness programs aimed primarily at the Latino community.
The organization was founded in 1994 as the Latin American Foundation Against AIDS and later expanded its work to other health and social service areas. In 2013 it adopted its current name.
Among its activities are health education, prevention, testing, and connecting people with support services.
