The garages will have rates of $2 for up to four hours, $5 for stays of four to seven hours, and $25 for up to 24 hours. Some stores may offer validation.
The Galleria will begin charging for parking in its garages starting Monday, November 2, 2026. The mall, located in Houston’s Uptown area, will end the free general parking service and introduce rates ranging from $2 to $25, depending on the length of the stay.
Simon Property Group, the company that operates The Galleria, confirmed the new rates to KPRC 2 on October 21. The measure will take effect ahead of the holiday shopping season and will apply to the complex’s garages, which until now have offered free spaces for customers and visitors.
The Galleria is located at 5085 Westheimer Road, near Post Oak Boulevard. The complex has approximately 13,000 parking spaces spread across seven garages, in addition to express parking and valet services that already have a cost.
Parking at The Galleria will cost between $2 and $25
The announced rates for the garages are as follows:
| Parking duration | Announced rate |
|---|---|
| Up to four hours | $2 |
| From four to seven hours | $5 |
| Up to 24 hours | $25 |
Simon described the rates as fixed amounts for parking periods, rather than charging by the hour. The company did not specify how payments will be processed or whether there will be a grace period for vehicles entering and exiting a garage in a few minutes.
The new scheme also changes the cost of short visits: a stay of less than four hours will have an announced rate of $2, unless a parking validation is applied.
Yellow, Brown, Green, Orange, and Red garages will stop offering general free parking
The new policy will apply to parking in The Galleria’s garages. Among the facilities the mall currently identifies as free are the Yellow, Brown, Green, Orange, and Red garages.
The entrances published by The Galleria include:
- Yellow Garage: entries from Westheimer Road and West Alabama Street, in the McCue Road sector.
- Brown Garage: West Alabama Street, near Sage Road.
- Green Garage: south side of West Alabama Street, near McCue Road.
- Orange Garage: intersection of West Alabama Street and McCue Road.
- Red Garage: corner of McCue Road and Hidalgo Street.
Express parking is a separate service. The Galleria already charges for preferred spaces in certain surface-level areas near Westheimer Road and on the third level of the Yellow Garage.
The valet service also operates separately, with pickup points near restaurants and department stores such as Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Nordstrom. Simon has not announced that the new $2, $5, and $25 rates will replace the prices of those services.
Some stores may validate parking
Simon Property Group said that certain retailers may offer parking validations to their customers. Participation will be up to each establishment.
As of October 23, the company had not announced a list of participating stores, purchase conditions, or discount amounts. Therefore, it is not confirmed that a purchase at any establishment will allow free parking.
The Galleria’s employees will retain free parking in areas designated for staff, according to mall administration.
The new charge will begin ahead of the Christmas shopping season
The Galleria houses around 400 stores and restaurants, two hotels, and three office towers. In addition to shopping, the complex welcomes visitors to dine, skate on ice, and use other services.
Simon described the change as part of a new system designed to facilitate parking. The company has not publicly detailed how much it expects to raise with the rates or how it will use those revenues.
The change represents an additional cost for visits to the mall during November and December. The announced rates apply to parking in garages and should not be confused with the prices of valet or express parking spaces.
The management of The Galleria keeps the phone number 713-966-3568 available for parking and access inquiries. The new charge will begin on Monday, November 2, 2026.
