After 34 bodies appeared in Houston’s bayous in 2025, this 2026 has already brought the first body located near the city center.
This Tuesday afternoon a corpse was found along Buffalo Bayou, on Commerce Street, between Fannin and North Main.
This information was provided by the Houston Police Department (HPD), which indicated that the emergency call was received shortly after 2 p.m.
It has not been specified whether the body found is a man or a woman.
Earlier, experts and authorities have noted that factors such as the size of the network of channels, urban growth, the lack of lighting in some areas and the increase in recreational activities near the water can contribute to this type of incident, although each case is investigated individually.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is responsible for confirming the causes of death in these cases and for determining whether they are accidents, suicides, medical causes, or possible homicides.
