Texas—The government of Mexico requested U.S. authorities to guarantee adequate medical care for Mexican families detained at the Dilley migrant detention center, the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs (SRE) reported.
In a statement, the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs noted that, through the Mexican Consulate General in San Antonio and the Mexican Embassy in the United States, it is following the situation of Mexican nationals detained at that center, particularly children and adolescents.
The consular representation maintains direct communication with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) authorities to verify the health status and access to medical services for those detained.
The SRE reported that, following the recent cases of two families detained at the Dilley center in which minors fell ill during confinement, the Consulate General in San Antonio maintains contact with the parents and legal guardians to provide accompaniment and consular support.
Consular staff conducted a visit to the migrant center on February 19, where they interviewed detained Mexican nationals. According to the statement, it was confirmed that they receive daily medical care.
