Don Francisco Debuts Gigantes on Univision

One of the most important television comebacks this year is definitely Don Francisco, who returns to Univision’s screen a decade after the iconic program “Sábado Gigante” ended.

His return is with the program “Gigantes,” which will air on Sunday nights, and where the host will interview entertainment personalities and will have an in-studio audience with whom he will also interact.

For almost six decades, Mario Kreutzberger, better known as Don Francisco, has built a legacy on television. Now with this renewed format that will bring together some of the most influential Latino personalities.

Each episode will combine deep conversations, the accompaniment of a musical band, surprises and emotional reunions with relatives, friends and colleagues of the guests, in addition to a tour through memorable moments of their careers and the possibility of winning cash prizes and even a car.

“The show is a little different,” he says. “It’s not just an interview that we do; it’s an interview in which we want to combine reminiscence with the present. The reminiscence of those times when they were successful and continue to be successful today. So, in addition to getting to know again the history behind these guests, we want to know what happened to them in the last decade. But this is also combined with the audience whom we consider giant because they don’t come to applaud only; they come to participate, to be part of the show.”

Definitely, this series of programs that will also be broadcast on ViX will have the scale and relevance of a major television event, with the warmth, humor and closeness that have defined Don Francisco’s career all these years. He also shares with us the challenge of this opportunity and what it means to him.

“It has been comforting for me, because I have felt very happy. It is also a test for me, because I am, as Argentinians say, ‘a grown man.’ I not only have quite a bit of experience, but I have many years. And for me it has been very comforting to return to producing, to prepare the programs daily, to prepare them, to overcome the difficulties that always arise; it has been comforting for me.”

A pesar de comenzar esta nueva etapa con “Gigantes”, Don Francisco comparte que espera que su audiencia de siempre y las nuevas generaciones se unan a él y recordó que no ha estado ausente y que busca seguir estando presente.

“I never stopped being part of the Spanish-speaking world. I did it first through Telemundo and afterward through CNN; later I began doing it through social networks. I have also continued for sixty-four years belonging to Channel 13 of the Catholic University. So, we are in a whole history that we have been traversing for quite a long time, sixty-four years to be more precise,” he concluded.

“Gigantes” premieres this Sunday at 6 p.m., Central Time, on Univision.
