Legal Advice will offer this Thursday, October 1, 20-minute free telephone consultations in Spanish for residents of the Houston area. Registration closes today, Wednesday, September 30.

The program will run from 6 to 8 p.m. and operates entirely by phone. Licensed volunteer attorneys will provide basic legal guidance and may refer some cases to additional resources when further help is needed.

Consultations will be conducted by phone from 6 to 8 p.m.

  • Date: Thursday, October 1, 2026
  • Time: 6–8 p.m.
  • Language: Spanish
  • Cost: Free
  • Modality: Telephone only
  • Duration: 20-minute interval
  • Registration deadline: Wednesday, September 30

Legal Advice is offered on the first Thursday of each month through a collaboration between the Mexican American Bar Association of Houston, the Hispanic Bar Association of Houston and the Houston Bar Association.

The service is virtual and does not offer in-person consultations.

Registration requires a brief description of the legal issue

Pre-registration is completed online and includes basic contact information and a brief description of the question or legal issue to be consulted.

Registration is available through Legal Help Houston, the Spanish-language portal of Houston Volunteer Lawyers.

The form allows you to start the process to request a consultation. The booking should not be considered confirmed until you receive the corresponding program confirmation.

During the assigned interval, the person who reserved the consultation must be available to answer the phone, even if the call appears from an unidentified number.

Lawyers provide guidance, but do not automatically take the case

Legal Advice is designed to answer questions and provide basic guidance during a brief call.

The 20-minute consultation does not mean that the attorney represents the participant in court or accepts the case for later representation.

When a problem requires other types of assistance, the attorney may provide information about resources or additional services.

Houston Volunteer Lawyers also handles civil matters such as family law, housing, wills, veterans’ affairs, taxes and other non-criminal issues.

Availability of help depends on the type of case and the corresponding intake process, so not all matters may be resolved in a single call.

Legal Advice offers service in Spanish

The program is specifically organized to provide legal guidance in Spanish over the phone.

Legal Advice describes itself as a free and anonymous service, although pre-registration requests basic information necessary to schedule the call.

For questions about the registration process or the legal helpline, Houston Volunteer Lawyers provides the phone number 713-228-0735.

Registration for Thursday’s consultation closes today

Legal Advice is regularly held on the first Thursday of every month. After the October 1 session, HisBA has another session scheduled for Thursday, November 5.

To participate in the October 1 session, registration for a telephone consultation must be completed today, Wednesday, September 30.
