Free Shakespeare, a 1,200-drone show inspired by Harry Potter, horror cinema, Mexican music, and circus performances are on the weekend agenda.
Houston and its surroundings will offer free and paid options to enjoy over the weekend from Friday, August 7 through Sunday, August 9.
The schedule includes the latest performances of the Houston Shakespeare Festival, two drone nights in Sugar Land, more than 70 horror films, the presentation of Jorge Medina, and several Ringling Bros. performances at NRG Stadium.
Free Shakespeare at Miller Outdoor Theatre
The Houston Shakespeare Festival will close its season with two free outdoor performances at Miller Outdoor Theatre, located at 6000 Hermann Park Drive.
The Tempest will be presented on Friday, August 7, and The Comedy of Errors will have its final performance on Saturday, August 8. Both plays will start at 8:15 p.m., after an introductory talk scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
The Tempest follows Prospera, an exiled duchess who uses her powers to conjure a storm and bring to her island those who betrayed her. The production includes strobe lighting effects.
The Comedy of Errors relies on physical humor and the mix-ups caused by two pairs of twins separated at birth.
The admission is free. Seats under the covered area require a ticket, while the hillside remains open without reservation. Miller Outdoor Theatre holds tickets for pickup at the box office one hour before each performance.

Harry Potter Lights Up the Sugar Land Sky with 1,200 Drones
More than 1,200 drones will recreate characters and moments from the Harry Potter films during two nighttime performances at Constellation Field.
The show will combine illuminated figures with music from the films, a live violin performance, and coordinated effects for the audience. Food, beverages, and themed merchandise will also be available for purchase.
The performances will be on Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8 at 9 p.m. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the experience will last approximately 60 minutes, including an intermission.
The event has no age restrictions, and the stadium meets the accessibility requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Constellation Field is located at 1 Stadium Drive, Sugar Land.

Houston Horror Film Fest Brings Films, Actors, and Vendors Together
The Houston Horror Film Fest will occupy the Houston Marriott Westchase for three days with more than 70 films, panels, Q&A sessions, and a hall featuring more than 100 artists, filmmakers, authors, and vendors.
Among the scheduled guests are Henry Winkler, Rose McGowan, Jack Osbourne, Jaime Pressly, Rachel True, Simon Rex, and Stephen Dorff. Appearances are subject to change, and autographs and photographs carry additional costs beyond admission.
The celebrity and vendor halls will open from 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday, the 7th; from noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday, the 8th; and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, the 9th.
Children 12 and under enter free when accompanied by an adult with a ticket. The vendor hall welcomes all ages, but attendees under 17 must be accompanied by an adult for some films. Parking at the hotel will be free.

Jorge Medina Presents His Legendario Tour in Houston
Jorge Medina, former lead singer of La Arrolladora Banda El Limón, will arrive at 713 Music Hall on the night of Friday, August 7, with his Legendario Tour.
The concert will begin at 8 p.m., and doors will open at 7 p.m. The show is open to all ages.
713 Music Hall is located within POST Houston, at 401 Franklin Street. Tickets, parking spaces, and additional access are sold separately and prices may change based on availability.

Ringling Bros. Presents Eight Performances at NRG Stadium
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey will continue at NRG Stadium through Sunday, August 9, with trapeze artists, clowns, acrobats, music, and audience participation.
The Friday and Saturday shows will start at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., and 7 p.m. On Sunday there will be performances at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
A pre-show will begin 30 minutes before each performance and will be included with admission. All attendees aged 2 and older require a ticket.
The production brings together 65 artists from 17 countries. An interview with one of its members and details of the show can be found in the note “With Clowns and Trapeze Artists, the Magic of the Circus Returns to Houston.”
