Hispanic Woman with Dementia Still Missing in New Caney, TX

Maria Ortiz, 58, was last seen on July 21 near Knoll Drive. The search includes Tavola, Roman Forest, Lake Houston Wilderness Park, and FM 1485.

Maria Ortiz, a 58-year-old Hispanic woman with dementia, remains missing one week after she was last seen in New Caney, north of the Houston area.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Texas EquuSearch are keeping the search active. Ortiz could be confused or disoriented and may require urgent medical attention.

The last sighting occurred near Knoll Drive

Ortiz walked out on foot around noon on Monday, July 20, from a residence located in the 19800 block of Knoll Drive, according to the initial record from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Texas EquuSearch documented a later sighting around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, near the 19000 block of Knoll Drive. That location remains the last known place where she was seen.

The search has extended through nearby communities and natural spaces, including Tavola, Roman Forest, and Lake Houston Wilderness Park. The area includes residential sections, wooded areas, and roads connecting to FM 1485.

Family seeks surveillance camera footage and vehicle footage

Relatives and volunteers have canvassed the area and spoken with residents as they search for images that could help reconstruct Ortiz’s route.

The family has asked to review footage from residential cameras in Tavola, Roman Forest, Lake Houston Wilderness Park and surrounding areas. The request also includes people who were traveling along FM 1485 on Monday, July 20, who may have footage from cameras installed in their vehicles.
