The Houston Zoo will offer free general admission throughout Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Non-member visitors need to reserve an electronic ticket before arriving; the zoo will not distribute free tickets at the gate.
Tickets were released on August 26 and are subject to availability. If the system does not show a schedule for September 1, it will not be possible to obtain the benefit directly at the entrance.
Free tickets require advance booking
Booking is done on the Houston Zoo Free Zoo Days portal. Each person needs a ticket corresponding to their age, even if the price appears as $0.
The process includes:
- Selecting the date of September 1.
- Choosing one of the available time slots.
- Indicating the number of adults and children.
- Completing the order and keeping the electronic tickets.
- Presenting the printed confirmation or from a phone upon entry.
Each order allows reserving a maximum of five tickets. High demand may exhaust some time slots or all spaces for the day.
Houston Zoo members do not need a reservation to enter with the benefits included in their membership. Additional guests not covered require their own ticket.

The Carousel and giraffe feeding keep their regular prices
The promotion covers only general admission during daytime hours. The carousel, the giraffe feeding, and other special experiences maintain their regular prices.
Concessions are not included either. The Houston Zoo allows outside food and drinks, but prohibits glass containers, alcoholic beverages, and plastic straws. The facilities feature free water bottle refill stations.
The Red Line drops riders about a 10-minute walk from the zoo
The Houston Zoo does not have its own parking. Hermann Park offers free spaces, but availability may be reduced on days with higher attendance. Lots G, F, E, H, and I are located roughly five to ten minutes on foot from the entrance.
Road work on Cambridge Street between Hermann Park Drive and Main Street may cause lane restrictions during Tuesday’s visit, though the roadway will remain open.
The METRORail Red Line provides another connection. The Memorial Hermann Hospital/Houston Zoo station is about a 10-minute walk via Hermann Park’s The Commons. The regular train fare is $1.25 per trip.
