Low-Cost Clinics in Harris County: Map, Services, and How to Find Care

The search tool allows you to enter an address or ZIP code and select the type of care. Costs, requirements, and appointments depend on each center.

Residents of Houston and Harris County can locate free or low-cost clinics using a search tool that organizes centers by location and type of care. The tool allows you to enter an address or ZIP code to find nearby options.

Results may include public health services, primary care, vaccines, testing, mental health, and other programs. Availability, pricing, and requirements vary among centers, so calling each clinic’s phone number is recommended to confirm information before visiting.

The map searches for clinics by address, ZIP code, and service

The Harris County low-cost clinics search tool brings together care options in Houston and other parts of the county.

The search can be performed in four steps:

  • Enter an address or ZIP code.
  • Choose the type of care needed.
  • Review nearby clinics and available services.
  • Contact the center to confirm appointments, rates, and requirements.

The search tool serves as a starting point, but it does not guarantee a specific rate or an immediate appointment. Some programs limit services based on age, residency, household income, medical coverage, or funding availability.

Harris County Public Health calculates fees based on household income

The Harris County Public Health clinics offer free or low-cost clinical and preventive services for county residents. Care may include wellness exams, vaccines, sexually transmitted infection testing, family planning, pregnancy testing, cancer screenings, and dental services, depending on location and availability.

Copays are calculated using a sliding scale based on household size and family income. People receiving SNAP or WIC benefits may automatically meet some requirements, depending on the service requested.

Harris County Public Health asks for photo ID, income proof, and public benefit documentation when applicable. Appointments can be scheduled at the 832-927-7350; same-day slots may be available.

Harris Health offers copays from $3 to approved residents

Harris Health administers primary care centers, specialty services, hospitals, urgent care clinics, and other medical services. Its Financial Assistance Program is aimed at Harris County residents who meet the income limits.

The assistance does not function as health insurance, and the application is free. Harris Health requests information about residence, household members, and income to determine eligibility.

Harris Health Service Copay Charged
Medical visit at a clinic $3
Laboratory work or X-ray without a medical visit on that day $3
Dental visit $8
Medication for 1 to 30 days $8
Emergency department visit $25
Hospital stay $50

These amounts apply to patients enrolled in the Harris Health Financial Assistance Program; they do not represent the price of all clinics included in the search tool. Services are provided even if an approved patient cannot cover the requested copay.

The Harris Health eligibility center operates at the 713-566-6509, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fourth Friday of each month closes at 2 p.m. To schedule an appointment, the number is 713-526-4243.

Community clinics and Harris Health have different processes

Type of care How it works
Harris County Public Health Preventive and clinical services with fees based on income and program type.
Community centers Primary care, dental, or mental health care, depending on the center; many use sliding scales.
Harris Health Public system with clinics, specialties, and hospitals; financial assistance requires a separate application.
Urgent care Illnesses or minor injuries that need rapid assessment, but do not constitute an emergency.
Emergency room Severe or life-threatening situations.

Community health centers funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services treat patients regardless of their ability to pay. Each organization sets its own discount scale and may request income verification.

Two Harris Health centers accept patients without an appointment

Harris Health provides urgent care for non-emergency conditions at the Outpatient Center, located at 5550 Kelley Street in Houston, and at Strawberry Health Center, 927 Shaw Avenue in Pasadena.

Both centers accept walk-ins, subject to availability, Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The urgent care line is 713-218-2697. Eligibility may depend on having Harris Health’s financial assistance program, accepted insurance, or the ability to cover the required deposit.

A life-threatening situation requires calling 911. The clinic finder does not replace emergency medical services.
