No curbside municipal collection on Monday, September 7. Monday’s service moves to Tuesday and Tuesday’s to Wednesday.
HOUSTON, Texas — Houston’s municipal trash and recycling collection will shift for Labor Day. There will be no curbside service on Monday, September 7, 2026, and the Monday and Tuesday routes will be moved by one day.
Households that normally receive Monday collection will have service on Tuesday, September 8. The usual Tuesday routes will be serviced on Wednesday, September 9. The normal schedule will resume on Thursday, September 10.
The adjustment pertains to the City of Houston Solid Waste Management services. Schedules for other municipalities in the metro area or private companies may differ.
The Monday routes will shift to Tuesday, September 8
Labor Day is on Monday, September 7, and on that day there will be no municipal curbside collection.
- Monday, September 7: there will be no collection.
- Tuesday, September 8: trash and recycling scheduled for Monday will be collected.
- Wednesday, September 9: trash and recycling scheduled for Tuesday will be collected.
- Thursday, September 10: the normal schedule resumes.
Residents with regular Thursday or Friday service will not be affected by the holiday.
The Solid Waste facilities will be closed on Monday
All Solid Waste Management facilities and administrative offices will be closed on Labor Day.
The facilities will reopen on Tuesday, September 8.
The city allows residents to check the exact collection day by address and to receive alerts via HTX Collects. The updated calendar is also available on Houston’s official Solid Waste Management service.
METRO will also operate on a different schedule during Labor Day
Public transit will have separate changes during the holiday. METRO will operate local buses and METRORail on Sunday schedules during Labor Day, while most Park & Ride routes will be out of service.
For issues with a collection or to confirm municipal services, Houston maintains the 311 system. The Solid Waste customer service line for service requests is 832-394-1453, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Houston’s normal collection schedule will resume on Thursday, September 10.
