Free Pools and Water Parks in Houston: Hours and Locations

Houston public pools close their season on September 7. This Saturday they open from 1 to 7 p.m., Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m., and Labor Day from 1 to 5 p.m.; spraygrounds remain available year-round.

HOUSTON, Texas — Houston’s public pools enter the last three days of their 2026 season this Saturday, with free admission and venues spread across the city.

The pools included in the regular schedule will be open from 1 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday the 6th, and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Monday the 7th, Labor Day.

After Monday, the summer recreational season that the Houston Parks and Recreation Department (HPARD) operates between Memorial Day and Labor Day will end.

The city also maintains 27 spraygrounds, water-play areas with jets and interactive water features that are designed to operate year-round and offer another free option when outdoor pools end their season.

17 pools operate on the regular hours for the final weekend

HPARD maintains 17 pools within the regular hours available for the season’s closing.

Clinton opens Saturday and Greenwood opens Sunday

Two pools operate on a rotating schedule during the final weekend.

• Clinton Pool: 200 Mississippi St., Houston, TX 77029. Opens Saturday.
• Greenwood Pool: 602 Beresford St., Houston, TX 77015. Opens Sunday.

With these two facilities, residents will have 19 municipal options distributed between Saturday and Sunday.

Wilson Memorial remains closed until further notice

Wilson Memorial Pool, at 100 Gilpin St., is not part of the options available this weekend.

The pool has remained closed since July 28 after copper wiring theft. Houston Parks and Recreation maintains the closure until further notice.

Stude Pool and Tidwell Pool are also out of service. Tidwell is closed while work progresses on a new aquatic center.

The 27 spraygrounds of Houston operate beyond the pool season

The closure of recreational pools after Labor Day does not remove all free municipal water options.

Houston Parks and Recreation maintains 27 spraygrounds in parks across different city sectors. These installations use jets, sprinklers, and other interactive water elements and are designed to provide activities year-round.

Among the locations are:

• Aron Ledet Park: 6500 Antoine Dr.
• Burnett Bayland Park: 6200 Chimney Rock Rd.
• Camden Park: 2951 Wilcrest Dr.
• Emancipation Park: 3018 Emancipation Ave.
• Ervan Chew Park: 4502 Dunlavy St.
• Guadalupe Plaza Park: 2311 Runnels St.
• Hackberry Park: 7777 S. Dairy Ashford Rd.
• Hermann Park: 6001 Fannin St.
• Jaycee Park: 1300 Seamist Dr.
• Marian Park: 11000 S. Gessner Rd.
• Wildheather Park: 14900 Whiteheather Dr.

Access to these municipal spaces is free. A facility may close temporarily for maintenance, park conditions, or repairs.

Memorial Pool maintains lap swim after Labor Day

Labor Day marks the end of the outdoor pool recreation season, but Memorial Pool runs a separate lap-swim program.

The lap swim runs Tuesday to Friday, from 6 to 10 a.m., until October 30 or until the water temperature drops below 72 °F.

Children under 10 must stay within arm’s reach of an adult

HPARD security rules state that children under 10 must stay within arm’s reach of an adult while using the aquatic facilities.

Running around the pools is also prohibited. Children’s life jackets must be U.S. Coast Guard-approved and sized to the child’s weight and height.

Pools may close temporarily due to storms, maintenance, or other operating conditions.

The 2026 recreational season ends on Monday, September 7 at 5 p.m. The municipal spraygrounds will continue to be available after Labor Day, subject to park-specific closures.
