Houston will commemorate this Friday, September 11, the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks with a ceremony in Lauren’s Garden, inside Market Square Park, in the city’s downtown.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. at 301 Milam St. and is free. The ceremony will remember the victims of the attacks and the first responders who answered in New York, the Pentagon, and Pennsylvania.

Lauren’s Garden honors a Houstonian who died on Flight 93
Lauren’s Garden was created in memory of Lauren Catuzzi, a Houston native, who died aboard United Airlines Flight 93 on September 11, 2001. Catuzzi was three months pregnant.
The space is located in Market Square Park and remains as a memorial to her and to the victims of the attacks.
The 25th anniversary ceremony will bring Houston together to remember the lives lost and recognize the firefighters, police officers and other first responders who answered during the attacks.

The 9/11 attacks left 2,977 victims
On September 11, 2001, 19 members of Al Qaeda hijacked four commercial airplanes in a series of coordinated attacks against the United States.
Two planes struck the World Trade Center towers in New York and a third hit the Pentagon, in Arlington, Virginia. The passengers and crew of the fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, confronted the hijackers before the aircraft crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The attacks caused the deaths of 2,977 people: 2,753 in New York, 184 at the Pentagon and 40 aboard Flight 93. Among the victims were 343 FDNY firefighters, in addition to dozens of police officers and other first responders.

Houston maintains an annual remembrance tradition
Houston has held public events to remember September 11 in previous years, with participation from firefighters, police officers, veterans and residents.
This year, the Houston Fire Department also included among its official activities a commemoration for the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
The ceremony in Lauren’s Garden will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 11 at Market Square Park, 301 Milam St., in downtown Houston.
