Construction at IAH Affects Access Through Friday: Lane Closures and Alternate Route

Repairs focus on Will Clayton Parkway, between Kenswick Drive and Lee Road. The three lanes could reopen on Friday the 28th in the afternoon.

Travelers heading to George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) may encounter delays on Will Clayton Parkway until the afternoon of Friday, August 28. The concrete repairs affect the westbound lanes between Kenswick Drive and Lee Road, near one of the airport’s main access points.

The greatest impacts are expected during the night, when crews may close two of the three lanes. Houston Airports has asked drivers to allow extra travel time, follow the signs installed in the area, and use JFK Boulevard as an alternate route.

Two of the three IAH lanes may close during the night

The work focuses on the 6100 block of Will Clayton Parkway. The project includes demolition and repair of the concrete on the westbound lanes from Tuesday, August 25, to Friday, August 28.

During the periods of highest nighttime activity, only one of the three lanes may remain open. The reduced capacity may cause queues in the final kilometers of the trip toward IAH, especially for passengers with early flights, late-night arrivals, or parking reservations at a specific time.

Houston Airports did not establish a specific number of minutes travelers should add to their commute. The time required will depend on the time, starting point, and traffic conditions.

JFK Boulevard offers another entrance to Bush Intercontinental Airport

Drivers can consider JFK Boulevard to avoid the section of Will Clayton Parkway that is under construction. The most convenient route will depend on the starting point, so travelers can check traffic before departing and follow official signs as they approach the airport.

The recommendation also applies to those using ride-hailing services, taxis, hotel shuttles, or family members’ vehicles. The closure affects road access, even if the traveler does not drive directly.

The three IAH lanes could reopen on Friday afternoon

Houston Airports expects to reopen all three westbound lanes during the afternoon of Friday, August 28. The schedule is tentative and could change if construction conditions require more time.

Travelers with trips scheduled before the reopening can check changes in the George Bush Intercontinental Airport’s official alerts. The section lists the current impacts at IAH’s entrances and terminals.
