A fire destroyed a seafood distribution warehouse in the port area of Galveston overnight on Wednesday, August 5. Two people were transported to a hospital and a dog was rescued.
The fire began shortly before 8:45 p.m. at Texas Gulf Seafood, located at Pier 7, near 7th Street and Wharf Road. Flames breached the roof of the building as firefighters worked to prevent the blaze from reaching other pier structures.
The Galveston Fire Department received support from several agencies from nearby communities. Crews continued to work at the scene into Thursday morning due to the size of the fire and the difficulties in extinguishing it completely.
Two people were transported to a hospital
Officials told KPRC 2 that two people were hospitalized, but they did not specify who they were or disclose the severity of their injuries.
Firefighters also rescued a dog that was on the scene. To date, no other people have been reported injured.
During the initial response, the Galveston Office of Emergency Management urged the public to avoid the area around 7th Street and Harbor-side Drive. The city’s official alert center no longer showed an active warning related to the fire by Thursday morning.

Texas Gulf Seafood distributed seafood products to restaurants and supermarkets, including the H‑E‑B chain. The building was destroyed when firefighters managed to bring the flames under control.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration lists the Pier 7 facility as an authorized site for the landing of commercial catches.
As of Thursday morning, Texas Gulf Seafood and H‑E‑B had not publicly disclosed which products, restaurants, or stores could be affected. It also had not been confirmed how much inventory was lost in the fire.

Authorities have not determined what caused the blaze. Updates on the condition of the hospitalized individuals and the extent of the losses remain pending.
