Guillermo del Toro and His Creativity Reach the Oscar

Definitely, they say that artistic minds create unique works, and this is proven by Guillermo del Toro, a Mexican director who has been recognized with several Oscar nominations, his most recent on this occasion with his film “Frankenstein”. Right at these moments when our community is very vulnerable in the United States, especially the immigrant community.

It is very important and very gratifying to see one of ours being recognized for his work and for his artistic creativity. Guillermo has spoken about the persecution our community suffers on various occasions. From his platform he has become a defender of his people; he has always made clear that he is also an immigrant who triumphs far from his homeland. Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, the director has urged the community not to be afraid and to fight for their rights.

In 2029, when he received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, he took advantage of the moment to make his message of support for our people clear.

Right now, we are living in a period of great fear. A great fear and a great division, because fear is used to divide us. It is used to make us believe that we are different, that we should not trust one another. These lies make us easier to control and fuel the hatred among us. But the antidote is to unite, to realize that those divisions are pure fantasy.”

His words and his stance are very important at this time, and his creativity in his films is the perfect ingredient to show those who attack people that there is talent and that a Mexican can bring millions together in front of the screen.

This nomination of “Frankenstein” in the Best Picture category is not only an achievement for the Mexican; it is a reminder that immigrants work hard for their dreams and achieve great things.

Among his achievements when we talk about the Academy Awards, Del Toro has shone on these occasions.

With the film “The Shape of Water” in 2017, he won Best Picture and Best Director and was nominated for Best Original Screenplay. Also “Pan’s Labyrinth,” of 2006, was nominated for Best Original Screenplay; also “Nightmare Alley,” of 2021, was nominated for Best Picture. “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio,” released in 2022, won Best Animated Feature. And this year “Frankenstein” received multiple nominations, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.

These and many more achievements he has had internationally; his work has been recognized at all levels and he has earned the respect of the audience and of film critics. His films always bear the director’s special mark and he always seeks to innovate in his projects.

Who would have thought that the young man who began to take an interest in cinema from a young age and who even worked on popular Mexican programs like “La hora marcada,” which also had a unique style of telling horror stories, would become a prominent figure in world cinema and a worthy representative of the Latino community.
