The Houston Parks and Recreation Department (HPARD) operates these facilities at no cost and without registration; they are available year-round, though usage tends to peak from April through October due to the climate.
HPARD maintains 27 spraygrounds distributed across parks throughout the city, according to its own official facilities count. Unlike public pools, which close on Labor Day, spraygrounds remain open year-round, weather permitting.
The spraygrounds are play areas with ground-level water jets and sprinklers, with no pool and no standing water. They do not require lifeguards, and users activate the jets with a button on-site.
No registration, appointment, or identification required
Access to HPARD spraygrounds is free and open to the public. No prior registration, identification, or proof of residence is required. Visitors simply need to show up at the park during the site’s hours.
Weather and maintenance may close a sprayground without prior notice
Although operation is year-round, HPARD may suspend service at a specific sprayground for maintenance or after heavy rains. It is recommended to confirm the facility’s status before heading out, especially after a storm.
