Houston will have another hot weekend, with highs near 95 °F (35 °C) from Friday, August 28 to Sunday, August 30. The chance of thunderstorms will be limited and will be concentrated mainly during the afternoons of Friday and Saturday.
The National Weather Service, known as NWS, calculates a 20% chance of rain for both days. Sunday will be mostly sunny and there is no rain in the city’s hourly forecast.
There were no watches, warnings or weather advisories in effect for the Houston area at 8 a.m. Friday.
Houston will reach 95 °F over the three days
Friday will have sunny skies for much of the day and a high of 95 °F (35 °C). Humidity could push the heat index up to 101 °F (38 °C) before temperatures drop to about 79 °F (26 °C) overnight.
Saturday will again see a high near 95 °F (35 °C) and a low of 78 °F (26 °C). Sunday is expected to be sunny, with a high of 95 °F (35 °C) and a nighttime low near 79 °F (26 °C).

Isolated storms can produce lightning and heavy rain
A weak atmospheric boundary will continue to move away toward the coast on Friday. However, interaction with the sea breeze could favor the development of some thunderstorms during the afternoon, mainly south of I-10.
The risk of severe weather will be low. The stronger storms could produce intense, short-duration rainfall, frequent lightning and wind gusts.
Saturday will have another chance of storms after 1 p.m. Sunday will be the driest day of the weekend in the city.
Houston already recorded a higher chance of thunderstorms on Thursday afternoon, when humidity and an almost stationary boundary favored rainfall in the region.
Katy will approach 98 °F and Galveston will stay in the low 90s
The heat will be most intense in the western and inland sectors. Katy could reach 98 °F (37 °C) on Friday and Saturday, with a heat index up to 104 °F (40 °C) during Friday afternoon.
Coastal communities will see slightly lower temperatures. Galveston could record highs between 91 and 92 °F (33 °C), though humidity will keep it feeling hot.
The NWS Houston–Galveston office forecasts regional temperatures between 96 and 100 °F (36 and 38 °C) inland on Friday. Highs on the beaches will range from 89 to 94 °F (32 to 34 °C).
The heat will continue without an active advisory
Although there was no heat advisory in effect on Friday morning, the NWS still regards the weekend temperatures as hazardous.
Prolonged exposure can increase the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Official recommendations include taking breaks in air-conditioned spaces, staying hydrated, and avoiding leaving children or pets inside vehicles.
