HOUSTON, Texas — Picos now has a new home in Houston. The Mexican restaurant reopened at 3736 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77027, a few weeks after closing its Kirby location, and its formal opening is scheduled for Thursday, September 24.
The new restaurant has 191 seats and preserves the menu Picos has served for decades, with dishes from different regions of Mexico, ceviches, cochinita pibil, chipotle steak, grill platters and its well-known shaker margaritas.
Picos now opens at 3736 Westheimer Road
The new location sits on Westheimer Road, near the River Oaks area and about two miles west of Picos’ former Kirby Drive site at 3601 Kirby Drive.
The restaurant left Kirby on August 30 after 12 years in that space. The move allows for the continuation of a story that began in Houston in 1984, when Arnaldo and Janice Richards opened Picos and began serving regional Mexican cuisine beyond the Tex-Mex dishes predominant in the city.

The Picos menu remains unchanged after the move
The new location maintains the dishes associated with Picos throughout its decades in Houston. Among them are the grill platters, ceviches, cochinita pibil, chipotle steak and other preparations of regional Mexican cuisine.
The shaker margaritas also remain available.
The restaurant serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, in addition to offering reservations, catering and spaces for private meetings.

Picos now occupies a 191-seat restaurant, considerably smaller than its former Kirby location.
The new phase aims to preserve recognizable elements of the restaurant without reproducing the size of its previous headquarters. The dining room retains features associated with Picos, including Talavera dishes and other decorative elements tied to its years of operation in Houston.
Picos continues a story that began in Houston in 1984
Arnaldo Richards opened Picos with his wife Janice in 1984. The restaurant began on Bellaire Boulevard before moving in 2014 to the Kirby location.
During its 42 years of operation, Picos has specialized in dishes from different regions of Mexico and has maintained a distinct identity from the traditional Tex-Mex offerings.
The closing of Kirby had marked the end of a chapter for the business, but not the restaurant’s definitive closure. Richards remains involved in the operations of the new location.
The formal opening is scheduled for September 24
