The world’s largest outdoor art gallery returns to downtown Houston at the Bayou City Art Festival. This art event is one of the most extensive in our region and provides opportunities for artists to showcase their work and for the public to enjoy this adventure where there are activities for everyone.
The organizing institution Art Colony Association, Inc. announced in January that the featured artist for the spring edition of 2026 is Lijah Hanley, an award-winning fine art photographer from Vancouver, Washington.

This year the Bayou City Art Festival will bring together artists from diverse backgrounds while also supporting local organizations and promoting the impact that art has on the Houston community.
Speaking of numbers, the festival will feature more than 250 artists from across the country, representing 19 different disciplines; all will exhibit their artwork on March 28 and 29.
The outdoor gallery will occupy Sam Houston Park along Allen Parkway, and will feature entertainment stages, a food truck park, beverage booths distributed throughout the festival, as well as a culinary arts stage and a tasting experience with the participation of local chefs.
One thing this festival offers is the opportunity for visitors to meet the artists, view original works and acquire unique pieces of art, prints, jewelry, sculptures, functional art and much more.
Lijah Hanley, the featured artist, began his photographic career by winning the National Geographic student photography contest at the age of 13. He thereby earned the chance to study under some of National Geographic’s most acclaimed photographers, both in Peru and England. Since then, he has cultivated a passion for capturing the essence of the American West and narrating stories through his imagery.
“My work is inspired by the backroads of the American West, where legend and reality collide in unexpected ways. On dusty rural roads, under the dark desert skies, you never know what you will encounter: forgotten towns, a lone cowboy, or something even more improbable. Here, history slides easily into myth, and myth often feels like history; each tale fuses fact with folklore,” he shares.
“For me, the American West and the Space Race are chapters of a single story: places where optimism, ambition, and myth converge. The astronaut occupies the place of the modern cowboy, exploring the unknown,” he added.
