This Tuesday, November 3, voters will be able to travel free of charge to and from polling places on five METRO services. To obtain the benefit, they must present their Voter Registration Card.
The Harris County Metropolitan Transit Authority (METRO) offers free rides to vote in Houston today, Tuesday, November 3, 2026, during the general and special elections. The benefit covers trips to and from polling centers on the participating services.
The free fare will be available only this Tuesday. The measure did not apply during early voting, which ended October 30, and will not be extended to other dates.
Five METRO services offer free rides to vote
Passengers will be able to use the benefit on the following services:
- METRORail: Houston’s light rail lines.
- Local buses: METRO’s regular bus routes.
- METROLift: the accessible transport service for pre-qualified riders.
- METRO curb2curb: on-demand transportation operating within specific zones.
- Community Connector: on-demand transportation service available in certain Houston communities.
Park & Ride buses are not listed among the services included in the announced offer for these elections.
To obtain the free ride, passengers must show their Voter Registration Card to the vehicle operator or fare inspector. METRO announced this requirement during the program announcement on October 23.
The agency maintains on its official website a notice about the free rides and the five participating services.
Important: the card required to obtain free transportation should not be confused with the legal identification requirements for voting. Harris County has its own voter identification rules and procedures for those who do not have a photo ID accepted.
METROLift and the on-demand services maintain their access requirements
The free ride does not override the usual conditions of specialized services.
METROLift is available to pre-qualified users and requires trip reservations.
Meanwhile, METRO curb2curb and Community Connector operate in defined service areas.
Trips must be requested through the procedures of each service and are subject to their schedules and availability.
