The match was suspended with a 2-2 draw. The National Police are investigating the death, and the Royal Spanish Football Federation postponed Copa del Rey matches from November 3 to 5.
The Spanish footballer Jesús de Miguel Alameda died on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at the age of 30, at the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, after suffering a severe collision with Jesús Owono, FC Andorra’s goalkeeper, during a Segunda División match.

The collision that forced the Tenerife-Andorra match to be suspended
The incident occurred on Monday, November 2, during the final minutes of the match. Owono left his area to challenge for a ball near the center of the field and collided with De Miguel, who fell to the turf and required immediate medical attention.
During ambulance transport, the forward suffered a cardiac arrest. Medical staff were able to restore his pulse through resuscitation maneuvers before he was admitted to the hospital.
The referee sent off the Andorra goalkeeper after the incident. The match, corresponding to the twelfth matchday of LaLiga Hypermotion, was suspended with the score tied at 2-2. Both teams agreed not to resume it due to the severity of what happened.
The National Police investigates the forward’s death
The National Police opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding Jesús de Miguel’s death. The case is under judicial supervision.
In Spain, deaths from non-natural causes, including accidents, prompt the opening of judicial diligences. The investigation does not imply that a crime has been proven nor that criminal liability has been established for the collision.
The chief prosecutor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Luis Sánchez-Jáuregui, considered it unlikely that a criminal proceeding would be opened for an action that occurred during the game. He also noted that the arbitral act and the decision of the Sports Disciplinary Committee must first be examined.
The RFEF delays Copa matches from November 3 to 5
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) extended the suspension of its competitions for three days as a sign of mourning for Jesús de Miguel’s death.
The matches in the Copa del Rey and the Copa de la Reina scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, Wednesday 4, and Thursday 5 were postponed. New dates and times will be announced later.
The official presentation of the Spain under-21 national team match against Japan, scheduled for Tuesday in Almendralejo, was also suspended.
CD Tenerife declared six days of official mourning and suspended the activities of its first team, the women’s squad, and the youth football categories.
