An animated character is the latest project of Omar Chaparro, an actor and comedian renowned for his artistic versatility. On this occasion he is part of the cast that voices the characters of “Circo Gómez”, a comedy series for teenagers and adults that becomes ViX’s new offering.
With a total of 10 episodes, “Circo Gómez” follows a dysfunctional family dedicated to the world of show business, with their life revolving around a decadent itinerant circus that struggles to stay afloat.
This family is led by an incapable, sexist and not very bright patriarch, but surprisingly beloved, “Filiberto Gómez”. Like any unconventional family, they have built their own idea of normality where they fit in perfectly and the rest of the world is the odd one out.
It features the voices of Eugenio Derbez, Vanessa Bauche, Diana Bovio and Teco Lebrija, among other talents.
“I have the privilege of voicing two characters, Lobito and Refugio, who are part of the Gómez family,” he added, and he recalled that perhaps we might be surprised with a third voice in another character.
Omar, who has previously had the opportunity to voice animated characters in Spanish-language films or to dub titles such as “The Incredibles” and several installments of “Kung Fu Panda,” states that voicing more than one character is a challenge.
“The challenge is to gear up and to be in tune with the creative directors,” he shared.
However, he also had the opportunity to use his creativity and his experience by improvising what he believes will create a connection with the audience.
“Things run more smoothly when the budget is not constrained, and while the script was very well written, they gave us this freedom to improvise. I think you can notice it; it has spark, freshness, and that is why we played a lot with the characters and they let us improvise. I felt I returned to the old school, because I thought about the time I spent on radio where there was no script,” he said.
“More than a challenge, it was pure delight to do it. When we finished recording, I said: ‘It’s over, this went by too fast’,” he added.
Eugenio Derbez is among the group of executive producers and for Chaparro that is synonymous with success. He states that each episode will be funny and that people, when they watch the series, will be looking forward to the next one.
“It is an irreverent cartoon. Yes, it is obviously absurd, chaotic, a family in decline, dysfunctional, although we did say that it is more of a normal family, because, what is a normal Mexican family? It does not exist,” he concluded.
The series premiered on June 5 on ViX.
