Katy to Raise Monthly Garbage and Recycling Fee to $17.66

The 81-cent increase will take effect on September 1, 2026 and will amount to an additional $9.72 per year for the city’s residential accounts.

Households served by Katy’s municipal trash and recycling service will pay $17.66 per month starting September 1, after the City Council approved a 4.8% increase in the residential rate.

The current charge is $16.85 per month. The adjustment will add 81 cents to each bill, equating to $9.72 over a full year.

The Council approved the change on August 10 as part of an amendment to the contract with Texas Pride Disposal, the company responsible for collection within the City of Katy limits. The increase corresponds to an adjustment tied to the national Consumer Price Index.

The residential bill will rise by $9.72 over one year

The new rate covers residential trash collection, recyclable materials, yard waste, and up to three bulky items during the regular service day. It also includes quarterly collection of larger quantities of heavy trash, within established limits.

  • Current rate: $16.85 per month.
  • New rate: $17.66 per month.
  • Monthly increase: $0.81.
  • Annual increase: $9.72.
  • Effective date: September 1, 2026.

The new rate will still be 21 cents lower than the $17.87 per month households paid when Katy’s previous contract with Republic Services ended in 2020.

The increase applies only within the City of Katy limits

A mailing address with the word “Katy” does not necessarily belong to the city. The Katy ZIP code area includes unincorporated neighborhoods and communities served by municipal utility districts, homeowner associations, or other companies.

The increase applies to residential accounts receiving the service contracted by the City of Katy with Texas Pride Disposal. Residents can check their service invoice to identify the entity that administers their account.

This change is also independent of the $5 monthly trash charge approved in the City of Houston. Houston and Katy maintain different systems, providers, and rates.

Small businesses and additional carts will keep their rates

The rate for small commercial accounts will remain at $25.70 per month. The charge for requesting an additional trash or recycling cart will not increase.

Small commercial accounts receive trash collection on Tuesdays and Fridays. Recycling and heavy trash are collected once a week, during Tuesday service.

Residential routes will continue on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays

The price adjustment does not alter the published routes for residential areas. The city divides service into areas with collection on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays. Garbage, recycling, yard waste, and bulky items must be placed at the curb before 7 a.m.

Heavy-volume bulky trash collection occurs once per quarter, in March, June, September, and December. The exact day depends on the route assigned to the residence.

Maps, accepted materials, collection boundaries, and contact information are available on the City of Katy’s official trash and recycling portal.

Texas Pride Disposal accepts reports of missed collections, requests for repair or replacement of carts, and other service issues at 281-342-8178, ext. 102, and at [email protected].
