Labor Day, besides being a date that commemorates the struggle for workers’ rights and recognizes those who work day in and day out in this country, is also a day that offers many the opportunity to gather with family or engage in other activities marking the end of the summer season. Here in Houston, thousands are preparing for a long weekend; many will take vacations. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) estimates that about 17 million people will pass through its security checkpoints this holiday weekend. Meanwhile, millions more travel by road.

A Walk Along the Bay
