The new agricultural complex will exceed 1 million square feet beside Highway 288. Horse Shows and several livestock competitions will relocate there when it opens for Rodeo 2029.

HOUSTON, Texas — The Farm will be the second large campus of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo when it opens for the 2029 season. The agricultural complex will encompass more than 1 million square feet on Rodeo land along Highway 288, south of Reliant Park.
The project, estimated at approximately $300 million, will allow relocating all Horse Shows and several livestock competitions away from the main campus, while RODEOHOUSTON, the concerts, the carnival and other high-attendance attractions will continue at Reliant Park.
Construction formally began in September 2026. The Farm will occupy part of a property of approximately 350 acres and will operate during the Rodeo’s annual season and the rest of the year with agricultural, educational, and community activities.

The new complex is being built on land owned by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo along Highway 288, several miles south of Reliant Park.
The site provides more space for the Rodeo’s agricultural and livestock operations and will allow separating part of the animal movement, trailers, exhibitors and competitions from areas with the highest concentration of visitors.

All Horse Shows will be relocated to The Farm
The Farm will house all Horse Shows of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, as well as several livestock-related competitions and activities.
Commercial Sales activities, spaces of the Livestock Show, the Event and Education Center, and areas for recreational vehicles will also move to the new campus.
The new space will enable exhibitions, contests, and animal preparation with facilities designed specifically for those operations.
RODEOHOUSTON, concerts and carnival will remain at Reliant Park
The Farm will not replace Reliant Park as the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo venue. When the new complex becomes operational, the season could be split between the two campuses.
RODEOHOUSTON will continue at Reliant Stadium, along with concerts on Star Stage. Shopping and dining areas, the carnival, AGVENTURE, Born to Buck, Pig Races, Mutton Bustin’, Champion Wine Garden and The Hideout will also remain at Reliant Park.
Junior Market Auctions, the final judging and the Champion Drives will also continue at the Reliant Park campus.
One Rodeo entry will grant access to The Farm during the season
The current plan does not contemplate charging a separate entry for access to The Farm during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Grounds or stadium tickets will allow entry to the new complex, and the season’s standard events and competitions will be included in the ticket price.
The movement of exhibitors and visitors between The Farm and Reliant Park is still under development. Transportation, circulation and logistics details between the two campuses will be defined before the 2029 opening.
The Farm will have year-round activities
The complex will not operate solely during the Rodeo weeks. The programming planned for the rest of the year includes competitions, agricultural education, youth activities and community events.
Among the planned uses are the Calf Scramble Progress Show, archery competitions, committee meetings, fundraisers, auctions, galas and Rodeo Uncorked! Roundup and Best Bites Competition.
The Farm will also be able to host collaborations with agricultural education organizations, live entertainment programming and other community events.
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo also anticipates year-round permanent jobs and seasonal positions during the annual season. The organization has not yet published a figure for jobs tied to the complex.
Construction began in September 2026
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo held the groundbreaking for The Farm on September 17, 2026, after several months of planning the complex.
The first phase includes work on the Livestock Building, which will provide space for selected livestock competitions, educational programs and future expansions.
The Rodeo will continue to be held at Reliant Park during the 2027 and 2028 seasons. The opening of The Farm is planned for March 2029, coinciding with that year’s Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
The project will not have a taxpayer financial commitment
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo will finance the majority of the project and there is no planned financial commitment from taxpayers.
The organization also contemplates philanthropic contributions and sponsorship opportunities for educational facilities, event spaces and other areas of the new complex.

Construction will continue through 2027 and 2028. The current goal is for The Farm to host its first Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo activities in March 2029.
